<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the size and thickness of a display device by utilizing a space apt to be left unused as much as possible. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device is equipped with a liquid crystal panel and a back light which emits light toward the liquid crystal panel. A light source 72 has non-light emitting areas 73 where light is hardly emitted at both end parts of the light source 72 and at least one of the areas is disposed at a position that is apart from an end face 45 of a light guide plate 44.
