PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having the function of forming stable images without image quality differences between them onto both sides of a transfer material and of increasing the printing speed. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is designed, such that toner image are primarily electrostatically transferred onto first and second intermediate transfer belts, the first and the second intermediate transfer belts with the respective toner images thereon are brought into firm contact with each other, via a transfer material by being sandwiched between first and second transfer rollers disposed in contact with the inside of the first and the second intermediate transfer belts, respectively, and a voltage is applied to at least one of the transfer rollers, thereby secondarily electrostatically transferring the toner images onto both sides of the transfer material all at once. The image forming apparatus is provided with a non-contact electrifying means, with which in a position upstream of a secondary transfer position, one of the toner images on the first and the second intermediate transfer, belts is charged to a positive polarity and the other, to a negative polarity.
