The method involves lane change detection in motor vehicles with data acquisition systems for motor vehicle movement variables. The variations of the movement parameters (delta, vy, y)against time and in accordance with predefined variables are investigated for agreement with patterns (32) that are characteristic of lane change processes. An independent claim is also included for an electronic controller for motor vehicles.
