PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new azo compound having a good hue and excellent light fastness. SOLUTION: The azo compound is represented by formula (1) [wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an acyl group, a carbamoyl group, an alkylsulfonyl group, an arylsulfonyl group, or a heterocyclic group; R<SP>2</SP>is -NR<SP>5</SP>R<SP>6</SP>or -OR<SP>7</SP>(wherein R<SP>5</SP>and R<SP>6</SP>are each a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an acyl group, or a like group; and R<SP>7</SP>is an alkyl group or an aryl group); R<SP>3</SP>is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an alkoxyl group, an aryloxy group, an acylamino group, a carbamoylamino group, an alkylsulfonylamino group, or an arylsulfonylamino group; R<SP>4</SP>s are each independently an alkyl group, an aryl group, an alkoxyl group, an aryloxy group, an amino group, an alkylthio group, an arylthio group, an acylamino group, an alkylsulfonylamino group, or an arylsulfonylamino group, provided that they may be suitably combined with each other to form a ring or rings; and n is an integer of 3 to 5].
