PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which can switch the strength of the suction force without depending on an electric circuit constitution in spite of dust separating sections which are relatively arranged on the upstream side and downstream side. SOLUTION: This vacuum cleaner is equipped with a vacuum cleaner body in which an electric blower and a first dust separating section on the upstream side are provided, a suction air passage element which is connected with the body, is provided on the upstream side of the first dust separating section, and has a first air passage 15a at a part, a second dust separating section 4 which is provided by being branched from the first air passage 15a, and an air passage selecting means 5 which is provided on the suction air passage element. The air passage selecting means 5 has a switching member 61 which is movable over a first position and a second position. When the switching member 61 is arranged at the first position, a strong stream of dust-containing air which reaches the first dust separating section on the downstream side without going through the second dust separating section 4 on the upstream side is formed. When the switching member 61 is arranged at the second position, a weak flow of the dust-containing air, which reaches the first dust separating section on the downstream side by going through the second dust separating section 4 on the upstream side is formed.
