PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a specific culture medium composition differentiating Salmonella enteritidis from other strains by one flat plate to enable separation and detection and capable of readily detecting Salmonella enteritidis in a sample in a short time without requiring specific technique and skill by setting a peptone amount to 1.0-10.0 g/L which is smaller than the amount conventionally used and further including xylose and arabinose or maltose and an amino acid. SOLUTION: The culture medium for separating Salmonella enteritidis comprises xylose and arabinose or maltose and an amino acid and 1.0-10.0 g/L peptone in the culture medium discriminating whether black colony exists or not by utilizing hydrogen sulfide-producing ability.
