PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passenger conveyor balustrade device with a movable protecting piece to be automatically reset to a previous position with the withdrawal of foreign matter after removed when the foreign matter enters into a gap between a moving handrail and the movable protecting piece. SOLUTION: When foreign matter is held in a gap between the moving handrail 4 and the movable protecting piece 13, the movable protecting piece 13 is removed from a protector 10 and moved away from the moving handrail 4 against the holding force of an elastic holder 14. Thus, when an infant inserts his finger into the gap, e.g., the movable protecting piece 13 is displaced and so the infant surprisingly pulls his hand to prevent his finger from being held in the gap. Besides, when the foreign matter disappears in the gap, the movable protecting piece 13 is automatically reset to the previous position by the elastic holder 14. After the foreign matter is held therein, less labor is required for refitting the movable protecting piece 13 to the protector 10 and quick previous-position resetting work is actualized without causing the fall of the movable protecting piece 13 off the protector 10.
