The arm has a distance unit for a pane of a vehicle that is to be cleaned and including a folding mechanism to generate a distance between a wiper blade and the pane, when the vehicle is switched off. The folding mechanism is electrically operated by switching off a windshield wiper motor. The distance unit has a control unit to pneumatically or hydraulically produce pressing force of a windshield wiper on the pane.
