A device which is attachable to an aerosol container (4), for actuating the valve (6) of the aerosol container (4), which, when combined with an electrically controllable actuator for the device, effects the discharge of gas from the aerosol container (4) by an electrical signal. The device and actuator are especially suitable for a pest trap using a gas to kill the pest.
