<p>A guide bar drive in a knitting machine comprises a linear motor composed of stator and rotor, and a guide positioned adjacent the narrow side(s) and extending in longitudinal direction to support the rotor. The linear motor is greater in height than width. The stator has a length in longitudinal direction and includes narrow side. The rotor is structured and arranged in the stator for translational movement in the longitudinal direction.
