The present invention relates to a novel compound S-(-)-1-{4-[2-(allyloxy)-ethyl] phenoxy}-3-isopropylamino propan-2-ol of formula 1 and to a process for the preparation thereof. More particularly the present invention relates to a process for preparing S-(-)-1-{4-[2-(allyloxy)-ethyl]phenoxy}-3-isopropylamino propan-2-ol of formula 1 by selective allylation of p-hydroxy phenyl ethanol.
