The hub has a body (12) driven in rotation around an axle by a pedaling driving pinion (24). A pedaling assistance device is housed inside the body and has a flat motor (26) connected to a body flange (18) to provide a large heat exchange surface. The device has a reducer (38) with a splined crown gear (48) having a flange (52) in which a recess is arranged to form a cylindrical housing (54) for receiving a speed shifting unit (22). The speed shifting unit (22) has an inlet connected to the pinion (24) and to the pedaling assistance device by a unidirectional rotation driving unit (56) and an outlet connected to the body by a unidirectional rotation driving unit (58). An independent claim is also included for a bicycle having a wheel with a hub.
