PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for removing brake shoes capable of easily performing a removal operation without providing a detaching member for a return spring in the brake shoes. SOLUTION: In the device and method for removing the brake shoes which detach the return spring (6) for shrinking diameters of a pair of the brake shoes (1, 1) expanded inside a drum when a braking force is released, a protrusion (17) having a curvature part in the arcuate form in the central part of the cylindrical member (12) provided with a hook (16) in the top end is provided, constituting the device for removing the brake shoes. The device is brought into contact with a neighboring column-shaped member, for example, an axle tube(24) so that the protrusion (17) works as a supporting point of a lever.
