PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop rotation quickly by avoiding oscillatory variation of motor position in the vicinity of stop position without performing positional detection.

SOLUTION: A brake control section 101 outputs a current command value vector (iα*, iβ*) for brake control. The current command value iβ*is substantially set at zero. The current command value iα*takes zero/positive value, respectively, depending on the powering/regenerative operation of a motor 106. In order to judge the powering/regenerative operation of the motor 106, a power operating section 103a determines effective power Preof the motor 106. The brake control section 101 judges powering operation of the motor if the effective power Preis positive, otherwise judges regenerative operation of the motor.
