PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston ring for an internal combustion engine capable of maintaining low friction even with a cylinder of tapered shape by suppressing the occurrence of a friction force due to opening/closing of a piston ring. SOLUTION: Relating to a piston ring 10, a chamfer 22 whose circumferential width L1 is larger than radial width L2 is formed on an edge 20 between an abutment end face 16 and an outer peripheral surface 18.
