PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that a variable valve timing mechanism using a plurality of conventional vanes requires a locking mechanism for phase switching or the like and become complicated and that the same requires hydraulic control of the locking mechanism performing smooth control or the like for suppressing torque variation accompanying phase switching and become complicated. SOLUTION: A valve timing phase switch is simply constructed to be performed by an outer circumference valve main body 2 integrated to a cam gear, an inner circumference valve element 21 having a gate valve section 21B connected to a camshaft performing angle transition in relation to a center angle, and working oil supplied from a cam shaft side. Phase control consists of a phase control valve 11 switching release and close of a plurality of secondary oil passage pipes 4 and a phase control bar 17 and is capable for performing smooth control with a simple structure.
