PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrocarbon discharge reduction device of an internal combustion engine capable of effectively reducing hydrocarbon discharge, suppressing the troublesomeness of the constitution. SOLUTION: A surge tank 13 is installed in an air intake pipe 11 of an engine 10. An HC absorber 17 is adhered to the inner peripheral surface of the surge tank 13. As an EGR device, an EGR passage 27 is installed to connect the downstream side of a catalyst 25 of an exhaust pipe 24 and an interval between a throttle valve 12 of an air intake pipe 11 and the surge tank 13, and an EGR controller 28 is installed midway along the EGR passage 27. After the start of the engine 10, the HC absorber 17 is heated by high temperature EGR gas to accelerate the removal of absorbed HC. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
