PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic tool changer not needing to reduce the approach moving speed of a first unit to a second unit immediately before the mutual connection of the first and second units because the moving path of the first unit to the second unit is not restricted when connecting and separating the first and second units. SOLUTION: The outer peripheral surface of the first unit 1 is provided with two guide pins 22 and their driving parts 3 without projecting to the connection face side, and the outer peripheral surface of the second unit 5 is provided with two blocks 60 having guide holes 61 without projecting to the connection face side. In the mutually abutting state of the connection faces of the first and second units 1, 5, the guide pins 22 moved to the connection face side by the driving parts 3 are inserted into the guide holes 61. An axis of one set of the guide pin 22 and the guide hole 61 inserting and removing it, and an axis of the other set of the guide pin 22 and the guide hole 61 inserting and removing it, are shifted.
