<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size and occupation area of an image forming apparatus and thereby to simplify the structure of it. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes image forming units 12Bk, 12Y, 12M, and 12C, a transfer unit 17 for transferring developer images onto mediums, and a fixing unit 18. The image forming apparatus further includes: a separating process means for separating the image forming units 12Bk 12Y, 12M, and 12C and the transfer unit 17 from each other when a laminate mode is selected; a medium conveyance process control means with which while the image forming units 12Bk 12Y, 12M, and 12C and the transfer unit 17 are separated, a laminated body formed by bonding the medium and a laminate medium together is conveyed to the transfer unit 18; and a heating process means for heating the laminated body.
