IMAGE PROCESSOR AND PROCESSING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control sharpening processing such that the image at a boundary part does not become unnatural when an extracted partial area is subjected to sharpening processing.

SOLUTION: Face area is detected from an image and extracted as an elliptical area (701). At the time of setting the intensity of sharpening processing for each pixel in the extracted elliptical area, a first parameter (D') having a value decreasing as the pixel position approaches the boundary is employed at least in the vicinity of boundary of the elliptical area. Sharpening processing is applied to each pixel in the extracted elliptical area with the set processing intensity.
