PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify a digit where an erroneous input is provided, without displaying an inputted password directly. SOLUTION: A password authenticating device 1 comprises: a storage device 13 for storing a password table 21 and a display character string table 23; a GUI control unit 19 for receiving the password inputted by the user; a password collating part 15 for comparing the passwords stored in the password table 21 with the passwords received by the GUI control unit 19 to generate comparison result information showing inconsistent points of the two; and a replacement processing part 17 for replacing display character strings on the basis of the display character string stored in the display character string table 23 and the comparison result information by the password collation part 15 to generate output information.
