PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To update the map data of a car navigation device by delivering only the updated map data that a user requires by a simple operation. SOLUTION: The car navigation device has a map database storing segment maps and a planned road list. The map information server has an updated map database and a planned road database. The planned road ID desired to be updated is assigned from the car navigation system and whether the delivery of the updated map data relating to the segment map data ID desired to be updated is possible or not is inquired. The map information server sends a reply as to whether the delivery of the updated map data relating to the required planned road ID is possible or not. In the case the delivery is possible, the server notifies the map data ID. When the user desires the updating, the car navigation device requests the updated data attached with the version information of the notified segment map data ID.
