PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the number of terminal which can be housed by alleviating a communication traffic load which passes the highest order device of a tree of layer 2 switch tree network. SOLUTION: An extended L2 switch includes a subordinate tree transfer table which registers the correspondence of the address of a subordinate terminal to an output communication channel to the terminal, and a first message transfer means for transferring a communication message to a predetermined communication channel to a high order tree network when the subordinate tree transfer table does not have a corresponding entry. An extended L2 switch capable of detouring includes, in addition to the transfer table and a first message transfer means, a detour transfer table which registers the correspondence of the destination terminal address of a communication message to be detoured to the address of the second layer 2 communication device of a tree network to which the destination terminal belongs, and a second message transfer means for detour transferring the communication message having the destination terminal address registered to this detour transfer table based on the detour transfer table.
