PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing a tin compound from a reaction composition containing a tin compound and a carboxylic acid ester, especially a reaction composition obtained by the transesterification reaction of a carboxylic acid lower ester as a raw material with an alcohol as another raw material using a tin compound as a catalyst, while suppressing the decomposition of the carboxylic acid ester and generating little acidic or alkaline waste water. SOLUTION: A neutral water-soluble organic solvent and water are added to a composition containing a tin compound and a carboxylic acid ester such as a reaction composition obtained by the transesterification reaction of a carboxylic acid lower ester as a raw material with an alcohol as another raw material using a tin compound as a catalyst and the insolubilized tin compound is removed from the system.
