PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article-encasing apparatus in which an article on an article conveyor is inserted into a carton on a carton conveyor by a pusher unit running side by side with the article, and the inserting move of the pusher is stopped at will. SOLUTION: The pusher unit 30, which runs side by side with the article conveyor 10 and with the carton conveyor 20, has a trailer 42 which is moved by a power source in perpendicular to a direction in which a base 32 is moved, and the pusher 40 which is trailed by the trailer 42 to move in a direction of inserting the article, the trailer 42 and the pusher 40 being set on the base 32. The pusher 40 is connected to the trailer 42 via a connecting unit 50, which disconnects the pusher 40 from the trailer 42 when a force stronger than a certain level is applied to the pusher 40 in the direction in which the force is resistant to the trailing. The base 32 is provided with a restraining unit 60 which restrains the pusher 40 upon receiving a command from a control section 80 and prevents the pusher 40 from following the trailer 42.
