PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium capable of realizing a larger capacity, and a method for reproducing recorded information. SOLUTION: This recording medium is provided with s substrate 11 having a plurality of recesses 13, and a plurality of recording parts 12 disposed in the substrate 11. The recording parts 12 are housed in the recesses 13. The recording parts 12 contain recording materials having different element compositions and/or different element weights, and are formed by including recording layers 14 to 16 recording information corresponding to the element compositions and/or element weights. The recesses 13 house a plurality of thermal diffusion layers 17a and 17b. In the recesses 13, the thermal diffusion layers and the plurality of recording layers are alternately stacked.
