PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of performing step-out detection on many positions, while suppressing the number of reset sensors to a minimum. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus is provided with a zoom motor 10 which drives a control object of a collapsible zoom lens driving system, a driver 9 of the zoom motor, two reset sensors 8 which detect reference positions of the control object respectively by using a plurality of edges, a zoom area discriminating part 19, which discriminates a present position of the control object from a combination of present two reset sensor outputs, the output history of past two reset sensors and driving direction of the control object and a zoom-control part 16 which drives and controls the zoom motor 10 via the driver 9 so as to drive the control object in the direction, where an arbitrary edge among the reference positions exists, according to the positional discrimination result of the control object.
