The manual selector lever (8) may be swiveled between varying positions (D,N,P,R) about a drag axis (27-27). Lifting magnets shift an armature parallel to the drag axis such that an inhibitor (11) is engaged by an inhibitor (10,20) on the manual selector lever when the lever is in the N or P positions, which are locking positions. D and R are releasing positions in which the inhibitors are not engaged.
