A novel 3-aminobenzamide compound represented by the following formula, which effectively inhibits the activity of vanilloid receptor 1 (VR1), or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the compound (in the formula, for example, R¹ means optionally substituted C_1-6 alkyl; R² means hydrogen, C_1-6 alkyl, or optionally substituted C_1-6 alkoxy; R³ means hydrogen or C_1-6 alkyl; R⁴ means C_1-6 alkyl, C_1-6 alkoxy, or halo(C_1-6 alkyl); m is an integer of 1-5; and P means a carbocycle or heterocycle). A medicine containing the 3-aminobenzamide compound or pharmaceutically acceptable salt as an active ingredient is useful for the treatment of diseases in which VR1 activity participates, such as pains, acute pains, chronic pains, neuropathic pains, pains of chronic articular rheumatism, and neuralgia.
