<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high pressure discharge lamp lighting device which can apply proper high voltage pulses constantly to a high pressure discharge lamp. <P>SOLUTION: A lighting device 2 has a voltage raising chopper circuit 17, an inverter circuit 19 which is connected to output terminals of the chopper circuit 17, and a first starting device 4 installed in the inverter circuit 19 to which a resistor 25 for type distinction is connected. A second starting device is connected to output terminals of the lighting device 2 via cablings 5a and 5b, and a high pressure discharge lamp is connected to output terminals of the second starting device. A resistor for type distinction which is connected in series with the resistor 25 is connected to the second starting device too. And a voltage which is generated at a connection point between the two resistors for the type distinction at the time of working of the lighting device, is divided with resistors and applied to a chopping controller 18. The chopping controller distinguishes a type of the second starting device by an inputted voltage, and controls output of the lighting device by carrying out chopping control of the voltage raising chopper circuit in such a way that the proper high voltage pulses are applied to the high pressure discharge lamp from the second starting device. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
