PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine capable of reducing wear of a cam surface. SOLUTION: In the engine having a cam surface 2 of a cam shaft 1 consist of a base circle part 3 and a lift part 4 and a part of the base circle part 3 thinned, an arc shaped thinned groove 5 along a circumference direction of the base circle part 3 is provided at a canter part in a width direction of the base circle part 3. It is preferable to form the thinned groove 5 over 80% or more length domain of circumference direction total length domain 3a of the base circle part 3. The cam shaft 1 is used for a cam shaft for valve system and a tappet 6 is mounted on the cam surface 2, an oil flow out hole 7 is provided on the tappet 6 and it is preferable to make oil 9 flowing down from a part above a cylinder head 8 flow out onto the cam surface 2 from the oil flow out hole 7.
