PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a square steel-pipe column, simply and easily obtaining the constitution where a panel zone forming part is reinforced. SOLUTION: In a panel zone forming part Z of a long square steel-pipe column 2, diaphragms 3 hot formed like a square ring are respectively externally fitted to a plurality of parts in the longitudinal direction of the steel pipe, and connected 4 by welding. The panel zone forming part can simply and easily construct the square steel-pipe column increased in thickness by the diaphragms by sharply decreasing the working man-hour without cutting and welding the long square steel-pipe, so that the square steel-pipe column where a joint part of a beam material is reinforced can be obtained at a remarkably lowered cost. The diaphragms are hot-formed like a square ring, whereby the radius of curvature of the inner surface of each corner part is made a little larger than the radius of curvature of the outer surface of the corner part of the long square steel-pipe, that is, freely varied according to the radius of curvature of the outer surface, thereby obtaining the diaphragm having the radius of curvature of the inner surface most suitable for the radius of curvature of the outer surface, so that it is possible to provide a stable square steel-pipe column and simplify the quality control.
