PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an umbrella not blocking the sight of a user by a long rib or sheet member, even if the umbrella is opened, in the umbrella having some wider sheet members when opened. SOLUTION: The umbrella 1 includes a shaft member 2, a plurality of ribs 4 openably/closably connected to the end of the shaft member 2, a sheet member 5 stretched between the ribs 4, a plurality of spreaders each connected to a predetermined place of the rib 4 at one end and movably provided along the shaft member 2 at the other end. In the umbrella 1, some ribs 4a of the ribs 4 have lengths larger than that of the other ribs 4b, and the other ends of the spreaders are moved along the shaft member 2 to open and close the ribs 4. When the ribs are opened, the spreaders support all the tips 8 of the ribs 4 so as to be positioned on the same plane in a direction orthogonal to the shaft member 2, and when the ribs 4 are closed, the spreaders support all the tips 8 of the ribs 4 in different forms depending on the lengths of the ribs 4 so as to substantially uniformly come close to the shaft member 2.
