The sky scraper has protection against serious mechanical effects such as fires, an aircraft crash or explosions and has a support structure with an outer casing (1) surrounding an inner core (2). The outer casing comprises a framework of compound pieces (3). The inner core has walls limiting vertical escape routes. The outer casing comprises a rhomboid-shaped flat framework. At least a part of the compound pieces are joined to each other at the points of intersection of the framework. They have a metal cover, preferably of steel and a solid non-metallic core material enclosed by the cover, preferably of concrete.
