An exhaust device of an internal combustion engine, comprising a single valve member continuously setting the area of one of two flow passages forming an exhaust gas flow passage after the communication of the one flow passage is selected. For example, a switching is performed between a main flow passage in which an exhaust gas processing device is interposed and a bypass flow passage and the areas of the flow passages are adjusted by the valve member to properly meet the requirements for output, exhaust gas treatment, and muffling.
