PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact portable electronic device that can be made small, thin and light in weight and can prevent embrittlement of a cabinet. SOLUTION: The compact portable electronic device 1 comprises a cabinet 2 formed like a rectangular parallelepiped shape, a main unit 3 housed in the cabinet 2, and a plurality of operation keys 5 to 10 to operate the main unit. The cabinet 2 is comprised of a cylindrical cabinet body 21 wherein the main unit 3 is inserted into an opening 21a formed on its one side part and a cover 22 that is attached to the opening 21a to cover the opening 21a after the main unit 3 is inserted into the cabinet body 21.
