PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring method capable of quickly and accurately monitoring a device that uses a rolling element, and to provide a monitoring device of lower size and cost. SOLUTION: A rolling element 3 rotates stably if operation state of a bearing 5 is well, but vibration of the rolling element becomes larger by the effect of, for example, rolling of the rolling element on a rough part of a raceway surface. The abnormality such as defective operation can be detected if the amplitude value of passage vibration of the rolling element which is measured becomes larger, as it means that the rolling element rolls, for example, on the rough part of a raceway surface. Since continuing poor lubrication develops into abnormality such as wear or breakage, treatment such as refilling of lubricant in that stage prevents damage from abnormality while prevents wear or extends life. So, the state of a device which uses a rolling element can be monitored without breakup with simple configuration, and defective operation of the rolling element is detected before the occurrence of damage whose cause is defective operation.
