The folding roof cover (3) can be moved in a motor vehicle roof opening (2) between closed and open positions and the device has a drive motor (8) connected to the folding roof cover by a drive cable (13). The drive motor has a drive connection to a shaft (9) lying transversely to the folding roof cover and with pinions (12) attached to both ends, whereby the drive cable has a drive connection to the pinions. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle with an inventive arrangement.
