<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten time for controlling image density in an image forming apparatus where a conveying body such as a conveying belt is cleaned in accordance with a relative speed difference between a photoreceptor and the conveying belt. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has photoreceptor drums 11a to 14a on which toner images in respective colors are formed, the conveying belt 15 to which the respective color toner images are transferred to form a color toner image, and a toner concentration detecting sensor 17 measuring toner concentration on the conveying belt. In the apparatus, toner on the conveying belt is removed in accordance with the relative speed difference between the photoreceptor drum and the conveying belt. In controlling the image density, a solid density toner patch and a halftone toner patch are formed for every color at prescribed intervals on the conveying belt, and an image forming condition such as developing bias is corrected in accordance with a toner concentration detected value detected by the toner concentration detecting sensor, and the conveying belt is cleaned by generating the relative speed difference between the photoreceptor drum and the conveying belt. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
