<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple lock assembly for a dual mode tail gate. <P>SOLUTION: A latch is mounted on a lock body for selectively locking a striker to a recessed portion of the lock body. The latch is movable between a latch position where the striker is locked to the recessed portion of the lock body and an unlatch position where the striker is removed from the recessed portion of the lock body. For selectively locking the latch to the latch position, a ratchet is rotatably provided on the lock body adjacent to the latch.
