PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent ground deformation from occurring at both the ends of a tunnel section because earth covering is caused by a shield machine, in the construction of a tunnel passing directly underneath an intersection. SOLUTION: In this method for preventing the ground deformation in the tunnel section when the tunnel, passing underneath a road, etc., is constructed by using the shield machine, a ground improvement method makes soil improvement applied to each of an area which is positioned at both the axial ends 5 and 5 of the tunnel section 4 and where the thickness of the earth covering is smaller than a predetermined thickness, and both sides areas 8 and 8 which continue into the above area, so that the areas can be reinforced. Since the problem of the ground deformation is not caused when the tunnel section 4 is excavated by the shield machine, the whole section of the tunnel 3 can be stably excavated by the shield machine.
