<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To pick up the image of an object so that the object is correlated with the photoelectric conversion characteristic of an image pickup sensor, and to control image pickup operation using an evaluation value corresponding to each region. <P>SOLUTION: This device is provided with an image pickup sensor 30 having a photoelectric conversion characteristic provided with a linear characteristic region where an electric signal is linearly inputted with respect to an incident light amount and outputted, and a logarithmic characteristic region where an electric signal is logarithmically inputted with respect to an incident light amount and outputted. The evaluation value detecting unit 405 of a signal processing unit 40 detects an evaluation value concerning image pickup operation control in picking up the image of the object from each of the linear characteristic region and the logarithmic characteristic region in the photoelectric characteristic on the basis of luminance information of the object in each of the regions, and an entire control unit 50 (image pickup operation control means) performs image pickup operation control on the basis of the evaluation value concerning each region detected by the unit 405. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
