<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method of controlling a motor which can reduce the capability of the thermal destruction of an inverter and noise generation. <P>SOLUTION: A loss reduction instruction unit 14 calculates the amount Ptotal of total loss of a power element which constitutes an inverter 3 as the sum of a switching loss Psw and a steady-state loss Psat. When the amount Ptotal of the total power dissipation of the power element is larger than a specified value, the loss reduction instruction unit 14 calculates the amount ΔPsw of the decrease of the switching loss Psw, and the amount ΔPsat of the increase of the steady-state loss Psat accompanied by the decrease of a power supply voltage Vdc. And, the loss reduction instruction unit 14 switches the reducing method of the amount Ptotal of total power dissipation of the power element, in response to the magnitude relation between the amount ΔPsw of the decrease of the switching loss Psw and the amount ΔPsat of the increase of the steady-state loss Psat. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
