PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent saturation from lowering in compressing the dynamic range of an image.

SOLUTION: A compression table forming section 3 sets a dynamic range compression rate P0 by analyzing an image S0 and forms a compression table T0 on the basis of the dynamic range compression rate P0. A compression processing section 5 determines correction values for all color signals of a pixel to be processed with reference to the compression table T0 on the basis of the brightest color signal in RGB of that pixel. Dynamic range of the image S0 is compressed by adding correction values to all color signals of that pixel thus obtaining a processed image data S1. An image output section 7 prints out the processed image data S1.
