PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a computer system with a plurality of memory slot channels and an initialization method for a computer system that enable a user to set a memory access mode freely between an interleaved mode and an asymmetric mode. SOLUTION: In the computer system, a BIOS determines whether memory slots inserted in the respective memory slot channels are of the same model or different models; and sets a memory controller 12 to operate the memory slots in either an interleaved mode or an asymmetric mode according to setting in an RTC 14 if they are of the same model, or sets the memory controller to operate them in an asymmetric mode if they are of different models.
