PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform photographing corresponding to intent of a photographer by effectively suppressing the occurrence of moires, in an imaging apparatus in which the focal length is detected by using image data. SOLUTION: A plurality of image data are photographed, while changing focal length by driving an optical system. A high-frequency component evaluating value VH which is the evaluation value of contrast of high-frequency components and a low-frequency component evaluating value VL which is the evaluation value of contrast of low-frequency components are obtained for each image data. When there is no moire, focal length D1 for imaging is determined by the peak value of the high-frequency component evaluating value VH. When there is a moire, a prescribed extent is determined by focal lengths Da, Db for imaging at an intersection of the high-frequency component evaluating value VH1, and a reference evaluation value VL2 calculated, on the basis of the low frequency component evaluation value VL and photographic conditions, and bracket photographing is automatically performed within the prescribed extent.
