PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder capable of eliminating any feed mistake of a paper sheet, preventing rise of a paper sheet on both end sides when the paper sheet is separated and fed, and smoothly conveying the paper sheet thereafter. SOLUTION: In the friction separation pad type paper feeder, a paper feed roller 7 is mounted on a rotary driving shaft 7a substantially at a center part in the width direction of a paper sheet, a rotating body 16 for suppressing rise of the paper sheet is fitted to the rotary driving shaft 7a on each side of the paper feed roller 7 rotatably around the shafts, and the rotating body 16 is constituted to be rotated by a driving means 17 separate from the paper feed roller 7.
