PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for detecting the number of paper sheets correctly through the detection of heat input and heat flow from one side without consuming extra toner or placing an excessive burden on a cleaning device; a paper sheet feeder; and an image forming device. SOLUTION: The paper sheet detection device for detecting the number of paper sheets includes a heat generating means 41 making contact with one side of a plurality of paper sheets, and a heat flow detecting means 42 making contact with the other side.
