PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron emission device that can reduce background-brightness resulting from collisions of a minute amount of electrons on anodes when no data is applied to an electron emission panel. SOLUTION: The electron emission device is equipped with: an emission current measuring unit 110 which measures an emission current EC of the electron emission panel; a comparison unit 150 which receives the emission current EC and a reference value S<SB>ref</SB>as an input and outputs a control signal CS proportional to the difference between the measured emission current EC and the reference S<SB>ref</SB>; a scan voltage control unit 170 which applies power supply to amplify the output voltage of a scanning signal in accordance with the control signal CS from the comparison unit 150; and a scan driving unit 17 which sequentially supplies a scan signal to the scan electrode lines, the scan signal having a changed voltage difference between the anode 22 and the scan electrode lines due to the amplified output voltage. Thereby, the background-brightness caused by collision of a minute amount of electrons on the anodes when no data is applied on the electron emission panel can be reduced.
