A method for motion estimation in digital Pal-Plus encoded videos by comparing blocks (B(x,y)) comprising a set of pixel values of subsequent images of the video and determining motion vectors as a result of said step of comparing, wherein a Pal-Plus encoded image comprises core lines and helper lines for broadcast transmission, the helper lines having pixel values for restoring full vertical luminance resolution, comprises a step of clipping the pixel values at least of the helper lines to a threshold pixel value of a defined normal black level, in case that the pixel values are below the threshold pixel value, and using the pixel values in a range of the threshold value and above for motion estimation.
